The Secret Campsite Gridshell:

Following on from a successful season with our Tree Tent Tim wanted to add to his rentable structures at the campsite. During the previous season Tim had endured renting out a not so well made Bell Tent on one of his camp pitches. The Bell Tent had been difficult to maintain – with wind, rain and breaking zips taking it’s toll so the decision to take down the Bell Tent and replace with a Gridshell was made.

We managed to modify the raised deck that the Bell Tent had sat on to take our Gridshell and then started the work on the Green Ash frame. A quilted interior liner was then fitted along with a waterproof, breathable membrane and finally a tough, olive green canvas to blend in the its environment.

Tim Bullen and his wife Lisa started The Secret Campsite just outside Lewes, East Sussex in 2012 with a clear remit – to offer a peaceful, tents only campsite for nature lovers, real campers and their families. The campsite is kept car and dog free which enables wildlife to flourish and ensures that it is a safe place for children to roam freely and explore.

The organic shape of the structure sits well in the site and offers a generous space with room for 2 double beds and a couple of floor mats along with superb views of the South Downs and surrounding countryside. Next to the entrance is a generous sized camping pitch with fire pit and cooking/prep table sat under a handmade bent willow structure. Numerous local pubs and some lovely country walks lie in the area then sit and watch the sunset next to your campfire.
